THE MEETING

SYNOPSIS

On a Monday morning, Makinde Esho (Femi Jacobs), a corporate executive at Techmast Nigeria Limited, flies into Abuja for an important 9:30am meeting with the Honourable Minister of Land Resources. Mr. Esho’s mission is to secure government authorisation to build a mast sub-station and return to Lagos on the afternoon flight.

There is a lot riding on this authorisation as it will save his company from bankruptcy. The Managing Director of Techmast (Jide Kosoko) is on Makinde’s case to get the signed authorization while his only daughter (Kehinde Bankole) wants him to finish quickly and return to Lagos for her graduation from University of Lagos.

Upon arriving Abuja, Makinde is forced to give a young girl Ejura (Linda Ejiofor) a ride into town. Meanwhile, he is ignorant of how difficult it would be to see the minister until he meets Clara (Rita Dominic), the impenetrable receptionist and a host of other characters in the minister’s reception room.

Makinde’s appointment is continually bumped off by a series of incidents, some inadvertent and others orchestrated by the minister’s powerful receptionist. Between Ejura who is almost half his age, Clara the receptionist, the Techmast MD and Kikelomo, it remains to be seen if Makinde can complete his task and return to Lagos

director’s statement

I am particularly excited about THE MEETING because it is a truly Nigerian story yet it has the ability to cut across borders. The movie deals with the universal themes of Love, romance, and government bureaucracy with a uniquely Nigerian twist.

Making this movie was very challenging. Apart from the many infrastructural challenges that come with shooting films in Nigeria, we shot many scenes in Abuja at a time there were a lot of terrorist bombings in many areas of Northern Nigeria. It was difficult trying to present Abuja at that time as a peaceful and tranquil city when there were hundreds of military men on the streets guarding the city. We had to be careful selecting our shots to avoid depicting unrest. We also had to call off shoot for a few months as there was an embargo shooting at the Airports. Despite the challenges, my cast and crew did a terrific job and this is the result of our tenacity and doggedness.

The Meeting not only introduces upcoming stars in Femi Jacobs and Linda Ejiofor but we also showcase a different and dynamic Rita Dominic. The best of Nollywood is well represented in the cast list with stellar actors like Jide Kosoko, Kate Hensahw, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Chinedu Ikedieze.
